Recommendations 

It is very popular at the moment to make artistic candles with irregular shapes without containers.

It's very difficult to find the correct wick as there are in those candles different diameters to consider. It's an even more difficult task if you are using vegetal waxes.

We want, generally speaking, to obtain that lantern look, like a tunnel in our candles, to make them last, in their original shape as long as possible.

We are focusing on vegetal waxes with our suggestion of wicks. We recommend 100% cotton wicks flat because we want to regulate the heat, we don't want wicks with paper or other fibers because we want them to burn "less hot" so they won't melt your molds right away. Flat wicks tend to curl easier and more consistently and were designed originally for pillar candles.

1. Choose a wax that has a high melting point and is suitable for pillar candles. 
2. Look at your piece and identify the smallest diameter.
3. Select your wick considering that diameter or the following lower option
4. You want to create a tunnel ( quite the opposite of what we generally want in the container candles ), and with that, you create a lantern effect.
5. You should coat your wick with a wax that has a higher melting point than the one you are using ( generally stearin, beeswax and colza have a higher melting point ) because you want to give some stability to your wick so it won't bend.
6. The thickness of your coating ( number of dipping times ) you will achieve by testing.
7. Insert your wick in a metal sustainer and press it tightly in the neck so it won't be loose when the wax is hot.(optional ) 
8. Very important, the pillar candles with diameters inferior to 40 mm, melt when the wick is too low and not too high, quite the opposite of what happens in bigger diameters. In this case, if your small diameter candles are melting change to a bigger size of wick  
9. Please be aware that these candles will not have a constant burning rate due to the complex forms.

    MG ES is also great for vegetal stearin candles.

    Pure Cotton 36 BK  is suitable for diameters                     15-20 mm

    Pure Cotton 39 BK  is suitable for diameters                     20-25 mm

    Pure Cotton 42 BK  is suitable for diameters                     25-30 mm

    Pure Cotton 45 BK  is suitable for diameters                     30-35 mm

    Pure cotton 48 BK  is suitable for diameters                      35-40 mm

If your diameter is near 50 mm try MG wick first.

      If you are using  vegetal stearin as your wax

Important note: This is just a starting point recommendation. Depending on the wax you are using, fragrance and color dyes the wick might change quite substantially. It's all about testing.
