Product Description

Sunflower wax is made by hydrogenating sunflower oil, which is extracted from the seeds of the plant. This wax is solid, white and has a neutral odor.

It's a pure sunflower wax, 100% natural, GMO-free, 100% Vegan, with no pesticides, and in conformity with REACH regulations.

Keragreen Sunflower Wax has features and benefits that make it the product of our choice for container candles:

  • Environmentally friendly: derived from renewable and biodegradable resources
  • Non-hazardous: not classified as hazardous under CLP (see the safety data sheet)
  • Clean burning: reduced soot and smoke emissions
  • Easy to use: suitable for candles in containers and other creations
  • Made in the EU decreases very much the ecological footprint. For example, the US version of 464 or C3 are made in the USA. Both have to be shipped to Europe, so they leave a big ecological footprint on their way.
  • Does not require solvents for cleaning; it cleans easily with hot water
  • Remains stable in fusion also over long periods, so it can be used by beginners

Properties (manufacturer data sheet)

  • Gives very white candles that can be easily coloured.
  • Smooth, glossy surface. Good glass adhesion, which can be improved by adding small proportions of butters or other fats.
  • No shrinkage or crystallisation on cooling.
  • No unpleasant odour when burning or when extinguished; produces a very gentle flame and a long burn time, depending on the wick used.

  • Pour Temperature: approx. 50-55ºC (200 g / 8 cm candle, container and room at 20ºC)
  • Color: white/ivory
  • Suitable for making container candles
  • Available in pellets
  • Available packaging: 1,5,10 and 20 kg
  • 100% vegan
  • REACH compliant
  • MADE IN EUROPE-FRANCE

Storage: protect from sunlight, dust and excessive temperatures. Store in a cool, dry place.

This wax is packaged in pellets, making it easy to work with, measure, and handle. The wax may be melted at about 70°C to incorporate colours, fragrances and other waxes. Higher temperatures are permissible but heating the wax above 90°C for prolonged periods is not recommended and may cause discolouration. The ideal pouring temperature will depend on the size of the candle, the ambient temperature and the other ingredients used; as an indication, pour at 50-55°C for a 200g / 8cm candle, when the container and surroundings are at 20°C. However, you may need to do additional testing to find the best pour temp for your conditions.

Recommendations

Step One: Melting of Wax – The wax should be heated to a temperature of 71.1ºC to 90°C to melt the wax. Do not heat the wax above 90°C. If the wax is held at higher temperatures for long periods of time, it will discolor. Always use a thermometer when melting the wax and never leave your heated wax unattended. While the wax is melting, stir the wax regularly to reduce localized heating of the wax. This will help to reduce the burning of the wax while heating.

Step Two: Adding Ingredients (other than Scent and Dye) – Other additives or ingredients may be added at any time to help improve the performance of the wax. Small proportions of butters or other fats can improve glass adhesion.

Step Three: Adding Candle Scent and Dye – The fragrances and dyes should be added to the wax after the wax is completely liquid. Dye at 75ºC and scent at 70ºC .Make sure to stir the wax completely to ensure that the fragrances and dyes are completely mixed in.

Step Four: Preparing the Wax for Pouring - After the wax has been completely melted reduce the heat on the wax so that the wax cools to the pour temperature (as an indication, 50-55ºC for a 200 g / 8 cm candle, with container and room at 20ºC). This will reduce cracking and discoloration of the wax after it has cooled. Adjust the pour temperature to your container size and room temperature for best results.

Step Five: Pouring Candles – Make sure that the container is at room or slightly warmer before pouring the wax into the container. The wax should be poured in the container at the pour temperature indicated above (approx. 50-55ºC) to reduce cracking and speed up the cure time of the wax. If the wax is to be left in melter overnight, the wax should be stored at a temperature of 54.4 to 62.8°C.

Step Six: Curing of Candles – The candle should be allowed to cool and cure before it is burned; we suggest a cure time of 10-14 days. This will allow the crystals of the wax to completely form giving a nice finish to the candle.

Notes:

  • Candles over 89 mm in diameter may need to be double wicked to ensure a full melt pool.
  • Works well with liquid or powdered dyes.

Our testing has found this wax works well when heated to around 85°C with fragrance added at 70°C (if using dye, mix before fragrance at 75ºC) before being poured slowly into warmed glassware immediately after stirring. For us, this has resulted in smooth tops and perfect adhesion in clear glassware. Please note however the ideal pouring temperature may vary depending on container size and room temperature therefore proper testing in small batches is always recommended and our testing cannot take the place of your own testing.

Wicking: We recommend the use of CL Stabilo, TB, TCR, and ECO wicks.

Wood wicks also work well in Sunflower wax.

KERAGREEN PURE SUNFLOWER CONTAINER WAX

Cera fácil de trabalhar. Ótima retenção da fragrância. Muito sensível às variações de temperatura mas a cera vegetal é assim, mas adorei esta cera
