Its most distinctive feature is its vibrant, globe-shaped flower heads, which can reach a diameter of about 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 centimeters). These flower heads consist of densely packed, papery bracts in various shades of purple, pink, magenta, and white. The true flowers are tiny and inconspicuous, nestled within the colorful bracts.
